Antidepressants

Antidepressants are drugs used for the treatment of depression. They have antidepressant, mood-lifting, sedative, depressant, sleep-promoting, activating and anxiety-relieving properties. In addition to depression, these drugs are used in other areas such as pain therapy, panic, obsessive-compulsive and anxiety disorders.

In medicine, antidepressant medications are divided into five different properties:

• tricyclic antidepressants
• tetracyclic antidepressants
• selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs)
• atypical antidepressants ( e.g. SSNRI)
• Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAO inhibitors)
