
Metoclopramide is a medicine that is taken for problems in the gastrointestinal tract. It relieves nausea, irritable stomach and heartburn and prevents vomiting.
Forms of appearance:
Metoclopramide is commercially available in the form of tablets, as a solution, suppositories and as a solution for injection.
Forms of consumption:
mostly swallowed, but also intravenously or anally as suppositories
Dosage:
The recommended single dose for the treatment of stomach/intestinal problems is 10mgMetoclopramide. The maximum daily dose is between 30 and 40 mg. It should be taken about 30 minutes before meals. Following this, if further doses are needed, wait 6 hours for the next intake.
Metoclopramide combats nausea and can have a sedative effect.
The most common possible side effects include fatigue, headache, dizziness, insomnia, anxiety, restlessness, constipation, nausea, skin irritations or allergies, menstrual disorders, behavioural disorders (e.g. depression) and diarrhoea.
Long-term risks:
Prolonged treatment with metoclopramide can increase the risk of disturbances in the movement of various organs. In addition, involuntary movements may follow, especially in the jaw and facial muscles, but also in the fingers, arms, toes or legs.
