Harm reduction - yesterday, today, tomorrow

Arud was founded in 1991 at the time of the open drug scenes with the aim of offering low-threshold medical care and psycho-therapeutic treatment to people with an opioid addiction. Opioid agonist therapy (OAT) in particular was central to this.

Since then, Arud and the City of Zurich have pursued common goals in the field of harm reduction and offer coordinated and complementary services. Thanks to this well-established network of public and various private actors, affected people can be comprehensively cared for. However, with the success of the measures taken, public pressure and the visibility of the problem decreased - and with it the dynamics of further development.

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Arud, we would like to highlight the importance and potential of harm reduction services with a joint conference. Based on experiences from Switzerland and abroad, we will show how these harm reduction services can be further developed, what challenges currently exist and how the services can be extended to new target groups.

With this conference, we would like to address professionals from the field of addiction and prevention as well as those affected and other interested parties. We are looking forward to a stimulating day with numerous participants!
