Quick info

PMMA (chemical name: paramethoxymethamphetamine) is a synthetic substance belonging to the amphetamine class and is chemically related to PMA and MDMA. However, it differs significantly in its effects and dosage.
PMMA is rarely consumed intentionally; rather, it has repeatedly been detected as an unexpected ingredient in tablets sold as MDMA/ecstasy.
Forms: Powder , usually pressed into pill form
Initially similar to an exhilarating alcohol high, followed by hallucinations and mild euphoria, tingling, numbness of the skin and limbs, an unpredictable urge to move, and an abrupt rise in blood pressure and body temperature even at low doses.
Particularly problematic is the combination of relatively weak psychoactive effects and a delayed onset of action: PMMA may initially feel less potent than expected, even though it is already putting a strain on the body. If PMMA is unwittingly consumed as MDMA, this can lead to taking another dose and increase the risk of an overdose.
Onset of effects:
after about 1–2 hours (compared to 30–60 minutes for MDMA)
Duration of effect:
The primary effect lasts several hours. Physical aftereffects such as insomnia and circulatory problems may persist longer. Since PMMA has not been extensively studied to date, it is difficult to provide precise information on the duration of its effects.
Dosage:
Due to the limited data available, it is not possible to specify a reliable, low-risk dosage forPMMA. Physical side effects can occur even at amounts below a typical MDMA dose, while the desired psychoactive effect may be comparatively weak. As the dose increases, health risks can rise sharply—even slightly excessive amounts can triggersevere physical side effects.
PMMA has been linked to severe cases of poisoning and several deaths in Europe. Therefore, consumption of this substance is not recommended!
We advise against the use of PMMA.
If you do end up taking PMMA: Take only a small amount and wait at least two hours before taking more, even if you feel no effects or only mild ones. Since PMMA feels different from MDMA, you should not try to achieve the expected MDMA effects by taking additional doses. A higher dose of PMMA will not produce those effects and will instead increase the health risks.
Avoid mixing substances, especially with MDMA, other stimulants, and serotonergic substances.
If you or someone else needs urgent help after taking drugs or alcohol, call an ambulance on 144. Tell the emergency responders everything you know.
