GBL sold as GHB

Risk assessment
A sample declaredas GHBdid not contain GHB, but GBL.
GBL is a substance that has both stimulating and depressant effects. The effects range from euphoria, relaxation, disinhibition, increased sexual desire, heightened perception, talkativeness (laberflash), mild dizziness and nausea, to drowsiness and deep sleep with loss of consciousness (blackout). GBL is a precursor substance and is converted into GHB in the body – this conversion intensifies the intoxicating effect, which is why GBL is dosed lower (approx. ½). If confused, the risk of overdose is very high. This can lead to unconsciousness, respiratory arrest, and life-threatening conditions. GHB/GBL should not be consumed together with other downers (alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines). This increases the risk of uncontrolled and life-threatening effects.
Undesirable effects include headaches, nausea, confusion, dizziness, and uncontrollable muscle spasms.
Regular consumption can lead to sleep disorders, anxiety, and tremors. Long-term consumption leads to dependence with physical and psychological withdrawal symptoms and epileptic seizures. Regular consumption of GHB/GBL is associated with impaired thinking and intellectual performance.
There are frequent cases of mislabeling with GHB/GBL. In addition, the purity of GHB/GBL varies greatly. We therefore recommend always having the substances tested before consumption and observing the safer use guidelines.
