Mephedrone is a new psychoactive substance, belongs to the cathinone group of substances and is very closely related to 3-MMC. The effects of the two substances are also comparable. However, users describe mephedrone as more euphoric and empathy-boosting than 3-MMC.
The effects of mephedrone are mainly empathogenic (increasing empathy), entactogenic (intensifying emotions), stimulating, euphoric and aphrodisiac. With mephedrone, the craving (strong desire to get high) is very pronounced and the dependency potential is significantly higher than with other empathogenic substances such as MDMA or methylone.
Little information is available on the risks, side effects, and long-term consequences of mephedrone and 3-MMC.
