Risk assessment

One sample sold as amphetamine contained, in addition to amphetamine (16.3%), caffeine (28.9%) and 1-phenylethylamine. The exact percentage of 1-phenylethylamine could not be determined, but it is the bulk of the remaining 55% of the powder.

1-Phenylethylamine belongs - in contrast to 2-phenethylamine - to the benzylamines and, in contrast to amphetamine, does not exhibit any psychoactive effect based on the current assessment. However, it was found in experiments that 1-phenylethylamine inhibits the conversion of noradrenaline into adrenaline. Therefore, it cannot be excluded that 1-phenylethylamine could enhance the effect of amphetamine.

1-Phenylethylamine can be used for the synthesis of amphetamine. Thus, it may be that the presence of 1-phenylethylamine indicates impure synthesis. Completely unknown are toxicity and long-term effects of 1-phenylethylamine.

With powders and crystalline samples, false declarations occur again and again; it is therefore essential to have these tested before consumption!
