Risk assessment

A sample of methamphetamine labeled as a pink powder did not contain methamphetamine, but rather amphetamine and caffeine. Such pink powder is often sold as “Tuci”; other names include “Pink Cocaine” or “Tucibi.” However, the name usually suggests a content that has little to do with the actual composition. In practice, very different mixtures are traded under the name “Tuci,” including ketamine, MDMA, stimulants, synthetic cathinones, or various combinations thereof. There is no standard formula, which is why products sold as Tuci are particularly often mislabeled.

Since amphetamine has a weaker and shorter-lasting effect than methamphetamine, the expected effects typical of methamphetamine do not occur. As a result, users may take another dose because they assume the substance is less potent. If users take additional doses repeatedly, there is a risk of ingesting a high amount of caffeine. Caffeine also has a stimulating effect and, in large quantities, can place a greater strain on the cardiovascular system, for example, by causing increased heart palpitations or inner restlessness.

The amphetamine content in the sample was relatively low. For it to cause harmful side effects, a much larger dose would be required.

Since both substances have a stimulating effect, their effects can slightly reinforce each other, which users may perceive as more intense.

Misidentifications occur regularly with powders and crystalline substances. Newly acquired substances should, whenever possible, be tested in small quantities and analyzed as part of a drug screening process.

Testing

If you do not have the possibility to have substances analysed, always test a small amount to avoid overdoses.

Wait and see

Wait 2 hours after oral intake, as there are always powders / crystals in circulation with unexpected active ingredients, which can have a later onset of action.

Utensils

When snorting or injecting powders, always use your own equipment to avoid infecting yourself or others with diseases.
