Risk assessment

This sample, declared as cocaine, does not contain cocaine but pregabalin.

Pregabalin is an antiepileptic drug and is not related to cocaine. The mechanisms of action of the two substances differ greatly. While cocaine is a strong stimulant, pregabalin has a calming, anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, relaxing and, in higher doses, euphoric effect. Pregabalin also has a much longer-lasting effect than cocaine. This unexpectedly long-lasting sedative effect can be disturbing and frightening for users who expect a brief stimulating effect.

Mixed consumption with other sedating substances such as alcohol, benzodiazepines or opioids is particularly dangerous, as the dampening effects can reinforce each other. This can lead to unconsciousness or, in the worst case, to cardiac and respiratory arrest or respiratory depression.

Nasal consumption of pregabalin is associated with additional risks. The substance is not suitable for this form of consumption, which leads to uneven and unpredictable absorption. Some of the active ingredient can only be absorbed via the mucous membranes with a delay or not at all, while other parts act suddenly and in high concentrations. This can lead to an unexpectedly strong effect or even an overdose. The powder can also irritate or damage the nasal mucosa.

Since powders and crystals are often misdeclared, it is strongly recommended to have substances analyzed in a drug check before consumption.

Safer Use

Analysis

Have your substance tested in a drug check if you bought it on the black market or on the internet. Counterfeit blisters may look identical to the original packaging.

Mixed use

Do not mix any depressant substances such as benzodiazepines, alcohol, GHB/GBL or opioids. Risk of unconsciousness or respiratory paralysis!

Dosage

Feel your way to the dosage and do not rely on dosage information from friends. Various factors such as habituation or dependence can contribute to a greatly increased dosage!

Testing

If you do not have the possibility to have substances analyzed, first test a maximum of one third of the pill. Some counterfeit drugs contain a more potent substance than the original.

Wait and see

Wait at least 2 hours after taking the drug. With some drugs, the onset of the intoxicating effect is very slow or it is difficult to perceive.
